Griffin began incorporating new views and ideas into familiar works she admired to reflect the change which occurred over the last 150 years. Thus, The Burning of the Catskill Mountain House became overlaid on Cropsey’s famous painting Catskill Mountain House, Gifford’s view from Sunset Rock was expanded to include the campground area and his view from Haines Falls was spattered with Pollock’s Autumn Rhythm # 30. In each rendering she tried to keep the dimensions relatively the same as the original works.
