Duo-Scapes                                   Dusk to Dawn

                                     Dusk to Dawn
Dusk to Dawn   2004, 16 x 20"  Oil on board

A study between "light" and "dark", Dusk to Dawn is an exploration of the conventions of both the 19th century art and morality - and their unspoken survival into the troubled 21th century.  The house in Dusk to Dawn actually exists--it is the Osborne House , situated across from West Point Military Academy on the Hudson River.  What shadows are cast by the legacy of the 19th century robber barons and the military machine they helped to create?  Yet it is the darker scene that actually depicts dawn.  The interior scene is of a brilliant and perhaps inevitable sunset.
